Fox’s Bar Review: Sky Bar

Sky Bar

ADDRESS: Calea Dorobanti nr. 155
PHONE: +40 0724 759 227

Sky Bar is a brand new roof top bar in Dorobanti born only 3 weeks ago. The unique and wonderful thing about this bar is the fully retractable roof that can be peeled back at the first sight of sunshine, and the glass wall surrounds which open fully as well to give it a totally out door feel. When closed it has a very light airy feel, and you almost feel like you’re sitting in a glasshouse, so the bar has great versatility to open or close depending on the weather.

The furnishings are very modern like something you would expect to see in a Phillippe Starck designed venue, with clear chairs and moulded white sofas covered in a selection of green and blue cushions. The flooring is part wooden decking and part white gravel, I would
suggest the girls watch there heels on the gravel as you wouldn’t want to spoil those Choo’s.

The drink offering looks good although not different and exciting in anyway, which I think a unique bar like this deserves. I managed to work my way through a few of their cocktails and what I had was very good: they have a list of classic cocktails all priced very well at RON 20, then a small selection of house cocktails. On the wine front, they list 18 wines and champagnes, which in itself is a good selection, the only thing that bothers me that only two are Romanian! If you want to drink wine the choice is French or Italian with prices to match.

I am really looking forward to seeing this bar in full-swing. On a hot summer’s night, after dark with all the doors and the roof open, I think it will rock!

Sky Bar is open from 10am until the last man standing everyday, and is situated on the 5th floor, 155 Calea Dorobanti.

I have to say on balance I like this bar and really love the whole concept so hope to see it do well.

Fox’s Bar Review: La Belle Epoque

La Belle Epoque

ADDRESS: AV. RADU BELLER NR. 6, DOROBANTI
TEL: 0762472468

La Belle Epoque is a very well established and authentic style Belgian beer cafe in Dorabanti, now in its 10th year. If you ask yourself what are the Belgians are famous for……….. after a short pause, you would have to say beer, chips, chocolate and Jean-Claude Van Damme. La Belle Epoque certainly does the beer and chips very well offering in the beer selection 10 different types and flavours. The draught include, Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Leffe, with Chimay and Duvel in bottles.

The food menu offers good quality simple fair, very good steak frite and a definite favourite of mine is the Flemish beef stew; it is very tasty cooked in beer (of course) and black currants which give it a slight sweetness.

The surroundings are comfortable with solid dark wood furnishings and a mixture of ecclectic art on the walls, from black and white photos to pictures of Belgian beer labels. Every time I have visited I have always had very good service, which is a real plus and will keep me coming back for more.

The opening hours are from 10am until Midnight 7 days a week, a very good spot for lunch and especially now that the weather is warming up you can take advantage of the tables they have on the street out front.
