How to choose the right egg
In the last few weeks the media took up the „egg-issue“ in Romania. Unfortunately most of the eggs you can buy in the supermarkets are from battery cages where chickens are kept in very bad conditions.
A campaign, launched by Vier-Pfoten/Four Paws Romania, explains us how you can distinguish the “good eggs” from the “bad eggs”. Basically you have an identification number stamped on every single egg. Beside the expiration date and other information, the first number tells you how the producer of this particularly egg is kept. The number 3 meaning “battery cages”, 2 = “barn eggs”, 1 = “free-range” and 0, being the best category, where the chickens are kept free-range plus are fed organic and kept in organic conditions. For further information have a look at the Four Paws’ website.
Until now, I found some non-class-3 eggs at the supermarket chains Mega Image and Billa.
